چکیده

The noncollinear magnetic state of epitaxial Mn monolayers on tungsten (110) crystal surfaces is investigated by means soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy, to complement earlier spin-polarized STM experiments. X-ray spectra (XAS), linear dichroism (XLD) and circular (XMCD) L23-edge were measured in the temperature range from 8 300 K compared results fully-relativistic ab initio calculations. We show that antiferromagnetic (AFM) helical cycloidal spirals give rise significantly different XLD signals, enabling thus distinguish between them. It follows our ground a monolayer W(110) an AFM spin spiral. Based temperature-dependent XAS, field-induced XMCD we deduce properties vary with temperature, but this variation lacks clear indication phase transition up - even though crossover exists around 170 dependence XAS branching ratios profiles.

Spin state transition in LaCoO3 studied using soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy and magnetic circular dichroism.

Using soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy and magnetic circular dichroism at the Co-L(2,3) edge, we reveal that the spin state transition in LaCoO3 can be well described by a low-spin ground state and a triply degenerate high-spin first excited state. From the temperature dependence of the spectral line shapes, we find that LaCoO3 at finite temperatures is an inhomogeneous mixed-spin state syste...

Temperature dependent soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy of liquids.

A novel sample holder is introduced which allows for temperature dependent soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy of liquids in transmission mode. The setup is based on sample cells with x-ray transmissive silicon nitride windows. A cooling circuit allows for temperature regulation of the sample liquid between -10 °C and +50 °C. The setup enables to record soft x-ray absorption spectra of liquids i...

Local structures of methanol-water binary solutions studied by soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy.

Liquid methanol shows one- and two-dimensional (1D/2D) hydrogen bond (HB) networks, and liquid water shows three-dimensional (3D) HB networks. We have clearly found three different local structures around the methyl group of methanol-water binary solutions (CH3OH)X(H2O)1-X at different concentrations in C K-edge soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). With the help of molecular dynamics simul...

Local structure around Mn atoms in Si crystals implanted with Mn+ studied using x-ray absorption spectroscopy techniques

The local order around Mn atoms in the Mn-implanted Si samples, with ferromagnetic properties, has been investigated by use of x-ray-absorption spectroscopy techniques. Analysis of both extended x-ray-absorption fine structure and x-ray absorption near-edge structure spectra clearly indicates that Mn ions are located neither in the substitutional nor in the interstitial position in the Si latti...

Chemical effects at metalÕoxide interfaces studied by x-ray-absorption spectroscopy

A chemical and magnetic characterization of ferromagnet/antiferromagnet interfaces is essential to understand the microscopic origins of exchange anisotropy and other magnetic phenomena. We have used highresolution L-edge x-ray absorption spectroscopy ~XAS!, which is element specific and sensitive to chemical environment and spin orientation, to investigate the interface of antiferromagnetic ox...
